Dear Giuseppe,
in the moment You are dismissing Your earthly life I would like, on behalf of all art collectors and of those who, loving art and beauty, dedicate passion and resources to support young artists, to thank You for the extraordinary example You gave us and for the love towards art You instilled us.
Thus I would like to pay You this tribute, as if You were with us, as if You were immortal, just as the works that, thanks to Your dedication, have already acquired this dimension of immortality.
The collection that You have been gathering in almost sixty years is the utmost expression of Your extraordinary intuition and of Your skill in "looking beyond", understanding, first among the others, the potentialities of the Minimal Art.
You could enact, in our perception of art, a downright "conversion of the look"; You had the ability to build up a new look, pervasive and powerful on the world, capable of overcoming the new frontiers of contemporary art. Such a vision can't be determined in just one day, but it is the figment of a long process that passes through the awareness of the surrounding reality and of a lasting and intense passion for the world of art.
The "conversion of the look" You taught us is useful in our everyday routine, because that is the first social place where we lose our capability to be astonished by the new, to be enthusiastic about the beauty. The works of art You appreciated and took care of can activate in people that intellectual "dart" that originates the will of changing, the decision of going on exactly in a conversion that, from the look, arrives to intellect.
You brought to our Country a unique cultural liveliness, You gathered artists, You nourished and supported talents. You caused a downright "revolution" of the aesthetic that, thanks to You, has even acquired an ethic dimension.
This is why we are thanking You, for Your teaching, for the importance of Your activity as a collector, as an innovator and a lover of art, for the invaluable heritage You shared with all of us, fond of art or not. Because Italy, we know, is the native land of art, and even if not all Italians are aware of this, their DNA is contaminated by art.
And You contributed, like few others, to mould its artistic sphere.
Thank You so much
Guido Galimberti
